DAS Wiki:About

From DAS Wiki

What DAS Wiki is

DAS Wiki addresses only one topic, but it is broad: the documentation of the built environment in Baltimore and the surrounding region, including the people, firms, projects and places that contributed to it. Since we are a part of the architecture community, our main focus initially was the architects of Baltimore and the buildings they designed, but we quickly found that the other players in the built environment, including allied professions, builders and building owners were an essential part of the larger story. Other collateral, but very relevant subjects include the styles of architecture employed and the events, large and small, that shaped our region. Finally, we realized that the built environment has changed over time and thus our attention must be drawn not only to the landscape of today, but to all the variations of this place since the original settlement of the area centuries ago.

The DAS Wiki is a living document and a collaborative project at its core. Users create pages and work together to make updates and edits. The wiki is designed to change over time as new information is added. If you are wondering why such and such architect or building is missing, create the page! Notice an error? Make an edit! The wiki is a place where those with an interest in Baltimore's built environment can contribute to a resource made free and available to all.

What DAS Wiki is not

DAS Wiki is not Wikipedia. You are currently at a website at wiki.martenet.com. This site is not the free encyclopedia Wikipedia. Wikipedia is a wiki that runs the same software as this site, and so the look, feel and capabilities of both are similar. If you're interested in working on Wikipedia, check it out directly.

DAS Wiki is not a free host or webspace provider. This site is not meant to store private, commercial or any other content that is unrelated to the research and documentation of Baltimore's built environment. You may not host your own website, homepage, or wiki at DAS Wiki. If you are interested in using the wiki technology for a collaborative effort on something else, even if it is just a single page, there are many websites that provide wiki hosting, either free or for money. You can also install wiki software on your own server; see this page for information on doing that. Of course, users can have their own personal pages, but they are to be used for information relevant to working on DAS Wiki. If you are looking to make a personal webpage that is not related to this wiki, please make use of one of the many free homepage providers on the Internet or find a suitable blog. Advertising, especially external links, may be removed from a user's page when there are no relevant contributions related to DAS Wiki.

DAS Wiki is not a repository of links, images, or media files. This site is neither a mirror nor a repository of links, images, or media files. Please upload only files that are relevant to DAS Wiki subject matter and provide full information on source and a free license; everything else will be deleted.

DAS Wiki is not a vehicle for advertising. This site is not to be used for commercial promotion, advertising, propaganda or advocacy - other than for DAS Wiki itself and Baltimore Architecture Foundation projects.

DAS Wiki is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Please restrict the contents of the site to the general subject matter of the wiki.
