On the northwest corner of Cathedral and Saratoga Streets, sits a building that was once the hall of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF)—the American offspring of the Odd Fellows that were founded in London in the eighteenth century. The IOOF in America was a fraternal order founded in Baltimore in 1819. Their old building was located on Gay Street. Their second building was designed by Frank E. Davis, and it was finished in 1891. The new building was constructed out of red brick to a design in the Romanesque style—squat columns with foliated capitals supporting fully arched entryways, a belt course between the first and second stories, a hipped roof punctuated by long dormers, and symmetrical fenestration with arched third-story windows. The building has a rather simple facade, devoid of ornamentation often found on buildings of this stature. Today, the building is being used as a luxury apartment building in the downtown neighborhood of Cathedral Hill.
