Belvidere Terrace, encompassing both sides of the 1000 block of North Calvert Street, is the best Victorian block in Baltimore and very probably the most successful Queen Anne development in America. This is the model house for Belvidere Terrace. It was built for Catherine L. McKim, the widow of John S. McKim (1800-1865,) soon after the City required the demolition of her house, Belvidere, the 1788 country house built by John Eager Howard, which stood in the middle of the 1000 block of Calvert Street. Her two sons then developed the block, each taking a side and forming his own team. Wilson & Wilson designed 15 houses on the east side of the block. The exceptions are: 1002, which is older, 1031-33 which are newer (1884,) and 1039 (1880.) Sources: No. 54 on J. Appleton Wilson's list of Executed Projects
