The family of J. Appleton Wilson was Baptist, and Appleton's father, Franklin Wilson, served as a part-time pastor of several Baptist Churches, including this one, in addition to pursuing an active business career and writing several books about the superiority of the Baptist theology to its rivals. Living nearby, at a 14-acre villa near the current corner of Fremont and Edmondson Avenues, the Wilsons were regulars at this church. In 1880, J. Appleton Wilson's list of Executed Projects says: "Designs for pews, communion table & pulpit & c. for FSB Ch. June 80."

The church has been demolished.
