Biography

Robert E. Lee Taylor was born on April 9, 1882, in Norfolk, Virginia. Taylor graduated from University of Virginia and continued his education at Massachusetts Institute of Technology before settling in Baltimore. Taylor began a partnership with DK Este Fisher, known as Taylor and Fisher. Taylor and Fisher’s most known work is the Baltimore Trust Building, an art deco skyscraper completed in 1929. When the Great Depression hit, Taylor helped begin the Architectural Service Corporation of Maryland which specialized in the design of small houses. Taylor began his affiliation with the AIA in 1915 when he became a member of the organization. He would serve as AIA Baltimore’s president for two terms, 1922 and 1924 respectively. Taylor became a Fellow of the AIA in 1938.  He passed away on June 23, 1953 in Baltimore.
