Engine House #8 was a two-story masonry building with a cast iron front. It was designed by architect Frank E. Davis and finished in 1871. Engine Company #8 operated out of this building until 1912. In 1928, it became Louis M. Helm’s motorcycle shop, and the second story functioned as a clubhouse for a series of clubs until the 1940s. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, considered significant in that it was the only known example of a public building that had a cast iron front. In 2002, the property was sold and the building was torn down. The cast iron front was saved, however, and the first story components of it were installed at the Fire Museum of Maryland.
