On August 22, 1879, The Baltimore Sun announced that a new Male Grammar & Primary School No. 1 was being built in place of a previous one on the same site. The building was to measure 100 feet on Greene Street, 75 on Fayette Street, and would be three stories high with eighteen classrooms to accommodate 1,200 pupils. The building was constructed out of red brick, with a stone base and white trimming and gables. It’s located in the Market Center Historic District, a 24-block of downtown recognized as a historic place. Today, it’s being used as the Maryland Bar Center.
